Why You Should Never Skip Savasana
Here's a pro tip from someone who has been a yoga student and teacher for many years… never skip savasana. For those that are newer to yoga, savasana is the last posture of the yoga practice, also known as corpse pose because you are meant to be extremely still.
This is where the true medicine and healing of yoga take place. The physical movement, known as asana in Sanskrit, is utilized as a medium to remove tension in order to prepare the body for deep rest at the end of the yoga class.
Savasana is different from sleep, it is a form of active relaxation where you are awake and aware, but overall you are at peace. Active relaxation is also well-known in the functional medicine community for promoting longevity and improving cellular regeneration.
This ancient practice dates back thousands of years and it is an integral part of why yoga feels euphoric and invigorating.
So no matter how busy you are- stay the extra five minutes, and never skip a savasana!
